Elements of art: Basic ingredients in a work of art; line, color, shape/form, texture, space
Line: An element of art: mark on a surface created by a tool (pencil, pen, brush)
Shape: Element of art’ two-dimensional area defined by line or color change. Space: Element of art; usually related to showing forground, middleground, and background on a flat surface.
Texture: Element of art; actual texture is the way a surface feels; visual texture is the way it looks as if it would feel.
Medium: Material used to create an artwork (oils, watercolor, clay, etc…) May also refer to various techniques such as collage, printmaking, or sculpture.
Vanishing Point: Point on eye-level line or horizon line where horizontal lines that are parallel to each other recede and meet.
Color: Any of the hues of the rainbow; also ant tint or shade made by mixing these colors.
Primary colors: Red, yellow, blue.
Secondary colors: Colors made by mixing two primary colors. orange, violet, green
Complementary colors: Colors that are opposite from one another on the color wheel and that construct with each other.
Intermediate colors: Colors created when primary color is mixed with an adjacent secondary color on the color wheel.
Hue: a color; color in general. Intensity of color.
Shade: a gradation of color; a hue to which black has been added
Tint: a variety of a color; a hue to which white has been added. A pale color
Value: Lightness or darkness of a color; color added to white to create tints; black added to color to create shades.
Cool Colors: Green, blue, violet, reminding us of cool places and feelings
Warm Colors: Red, orange, and yellow. Warm colors remind us of warm places and feelings.
Neutral: Term used for white, black, and grey and sometimes browns.
