Textile Lesson Plan Spider Webs and Our Relationship with NatureFor this lesson we would teach our children about different ways spiders capture their prey and the role different web designs have in capturing. We discussed a few prompts relating to spider web design, such as:If you were a spider, what kind of spider web would you design and why?Spiders catch their prey in webs. How would you catch the things you want to eat? What would you make to catch these things? We would provide a varaity of textiles, different things they might be able to weave in some way, and let them decide on the design or even choose their own media. We related spider web design to Native Americans' art of catching animals with nets and traps as well as the Dream Catcher, a way to capture hopes and ideas. The following is one response to the first prompt.
It was designed to hold up a flower because I wanted the web to be pretty. It was blue so it would blend in with the sky for insects looking up, and like water for insects looking down.
